Troubleshoot a sensor installation

Description

This troubleshooting guide will assist you when one or more sensors are offline / not reporting temperatures after installation.

Please consult our article Quick start guide for installation instructions. If some sensors are not visable or data is missing, then make sure to check the following items:

  1. Check the distance
The most common problem is that the sensors are out of reach of the gateway and router. Either the distance is too large (more than 15 meters), or there are too many obstacles (walls, metal..). To test this:
    • Take the sensor out of the cradle and bring it closer to the gateway (about 1 meter)
    • Use a whiteboard magnet to activate it by swiping the left side
    • Check if you see a blue/green light in the circle during 5 seconds
      • If OK: Check again in RmoniWeb
      • If not OK: Go to next item 2. Check the battery
    • Put the sensor back in the fridge / freezer. If the measurements in RmoniWeb fail again then install an additional router.

  2. Check the battery
If no green / blue light is visible when you use a magnet then the battery may be dead. Please check our article about how to change a battery here.

A battery may die when the device is activated during transport. This should not happen once installed. The average battery life is more than 2 years.
